Welcome to Southwood's new web page. With a lot of help from James I think I'm finding out how to organise things here. There's still alot to grasp and still more information and photographs that I want to put on. Please give me a shout if there is anything more you would like to know now. I'm Barbara, with my extended family I live a 10 minute walk away from Southwood at Torridge House in Little Torrington.
Southwood Cottage is set in a quiet rural setting with gardens that blend into the surrounding fields and are overlooked only by cows. A large country cottage, Southwood sits alongside a high banked Devon lane. It is close to the market town of Great Torrington, RHS Rosemoor Gardens and many other attractions. Between Dartmoor and Exmoor it is in easy reach of the moors, beaches, fishing villages, coastal path and countryside walks.
With a sauna cabin, 5 bedrooms, 4 shower or bathrooms, 2 sitting rooms, sun room, dining room and use of facilities at nearby Torridge House, it provides all the comfort and facilities for a relaxing holiday whether you are looking for an action packed break or retreat from the busy world.
With just two other cottages on the other side of the lane, Southwood’s gardens are private and fully enclosed, mostly by Devon banks.
Southwood is a very pleasing, attractive and spacious house with a half-acre garden and a lovely Devon countryside setting.
For over 31 years it has been a happy holiday home for very many families and groups of friends . It is well suited the needs of a wide variety of holiday makers from short country breaks and pampering weekends to week and two week holidays for re-unions, friends, families and shared interest groups.
Southwood is surrounded by fields and rolling open countryside situated on a small Devon lane with only two other cottages nearby. It is in a private yet open setting and though just off the beaten track, it is not remote or isolated.
Southwood is an ideal place from which to explore beaches, moors and the many local attractions or a wonderful place to sit and relax in the quiet country air, with lovely views over beautiful wooded valleys and rolling Devon countryside.

Plenty of private parking. Bicycle and boot storage Superstore internet deliveries, ready meals, chef catering, pampering, beauty and holistic treatments and ceramic socials all can be arranged. The beds are made up ready for your arrival.
Southwood is a lovely house in a lovely setting. A great base and place for holidays and celebrations. Smaller groups can book Southwood outside of school holidays as a 3 or 4 bedroom house, rather than all 5 bedrooms. This will gives flexibility for booking - bedrooms can be added if you wish to add numbers to your party. Also in term times offers are available to take Southwood for 8 nights for the price of 7.
